Good article and a nice summation of the problem. My only problem with the analysis is given that much of the population joined the chorus of deregulatory mythology, given vested interest is inclined toward perpetuation of the current system and given a lack of a popular cheerleader for your arguments, I'm not seeing much in the way of change.

I work in the retirement planning field and there is no question that your insights regarding couples and money carry important messages for pre-retired couples who are trying to plan for retirement. Money is, of course, a big issue for people as they retire since very often their financial situation will change, and not always for the better.

This certainly is a topic that gets people talking and thinking. And that is the point, we all need to think about how and why we manage our money the way we do both in a relationship and outside of it.

Well, I believe you missed one big category of distructive personality type:
- "I don't care where you get money from - I need this and that"

So - one side has no "balls" to say "No - there is no money in our budget" and other side don't give a damn. After you rack up a big debt because you don't want to be a bad provider, now you are an idiot because you have put your family in peril because you are broke.

I call this category - "Keeping up apperances bully with partner with no balls"

Cheers
